Directions for polls and Recommendation

Sidebar Recommendation Engine
Travis:I remember back in the day, they called this thing targeted software, or profiling.
where the system gathers and learns about user trends as they do things, which can sometimes later be queried to reveal patterns, like 8 out of 10 people who voted yes to liking the new imac book also think that sandra oh is fugly. The hard part of that is knowing what to ask, and how to ask it, to draw trends. That is what "a portal" is, user / market specific view of something. In this case, every individual visitor is their own "segment". So they will have unique side bars. And Teenwag is a sexy Celebrity Hollywood portal...

If you were to start to use other demographics, like when the user logs in, to use your site, if the side bar would inspect if they chose M or F for gender, and used that to influence what kinds of content was shown, then you have created 2 segments, by gender.

most sites i have seen that capture user patterns tend to minimize the amount of different segments (possible views) the user could see. Teenwag has no such limits
